The Arizona Protection Dog Club was created to give protection-dog owners and enthusiasts a place to train, learn, and grow alongside others who share the same commitment to responsible protection.
We develop capable protection-dog teams through exceptional obedience, purposeful protection work, skilled handling, and continued education. Every exercise is built around the same expectation: protection must remain under control.
But AZPDC is more than the work performed on the training field. We are a community of like-minded people who support one another, celebrate each other’s progress, and enjoy the process of becoming better handlers together.

A capable protection dog is only one half of the team. The handler must also develop the awareness, judgment, timing, and confidence necessary to direct that capability responsibly.
AZPDC training brings dog and handler forward together. Teams work to strengthen obedience, improve communication, develop protection skills, and maintain control through pressure, movement, distraction, and changing environments.
The objective is not simply a dog that can perform. It is a dependable team that understands how to work together—with clarity, confidence, and control.

Every team enters the field with different experience, capabilities, and goals. Training is adapted accordingly while maintaining the club’s standards for control, responsibility, and sound development.
The work may change as a team progresses, but the standard remains the same: capable protection guided by a responsible handler.
Who the Club Serves
A Place for Committed Teams.
Arizona Protection Dog Club participation is selective. Every dog-and-handler team must be appropriate for the training environment and share the club’s commitment to control, responsibility, and continued development.
Outside teams are considered individually. Prior training or protection experience does not guarantee acceptance. The dog, handler, training goals, and overall fit must support a safe, productive environment for everyone on the field.

Protection work is not about creating an uncontrolled or unnecessarily aggressive dog. It is about developing a dog that can recognize its role, respond with confidence when directed, and remain under the handler’s authority.
Reliable obedience is the foundation. Protection skills, situational awareness, and appropriate response must all be supported by clear communication between dog and handler.
At AZPDC, greater capability requires greater control. The goal is a stable, dependable dog whose skills help protect the people who matter most—without compromising the companionship and trust that define life together.

Training, Sport & Competition
A Place to Test the Work.
Protection-dog sport gives suitable teams an opportunity to measure their progress, strengthen performance, and work toward clearly defined objectives.
For members interested in competition, AZPDC provides an environment where dog and handler can prepare together. The discipline of sport can reveal strengths, expose areas that need refinement, and give teams meaningful goals beyond the training field.
Competition is not required, nor is it the club’s sole purpose. Some members train to compete. Others participate to maintain a family protection dog, continue personal development, or enjoy purposeful work with their dog.
Whatever the objective, the standard remains consistent: strong obedience, capable protection, responsible handling, and control throughout the work.

Public Education
Showing What Responsible Protection Looks Like.
Protection dogs are often misunderstood. Images of uncontrolled aggression can overshadow the discipline, stability, obedience, and responsible handling that properly developed protection work requires.
AZPDC helps educate the public by demonstrating what a well-trained protection dog should be: a trusted companion, responsive to its handler, capable when needed, and under control throughout everyday life.
Through responsible training and positive interaction, we hope to encourage a more accurate understanding of protection dogs and the people committed to developing them properly.
Club Training
Saturdays Are for the Dogs.
AZPDC generally trains on Saturdays, giving members a consistent opportunity to maintain skills, continue progressing, and work alongside other committed teams.
Training may be paused or rescheduled for holidays, special events, weather, or other circumstances affecting the club schedule.
Training is held at various locations in and around the Prescott area. Location details are provided to all approved participants.
As a club, AZPDC is shaped by the people who belong to it. Members have a voice in club activities, training opportunities, events, and the continued direction of the organization.
Membership buy-in, dues, and applicable training costs for outside teams are discussed after the entry assessment.
Membership & Outside-Team Consideration
Already Part of the Family—
or Interested in Joining It?
Armor K9 protection-dog owners, current Protection Development clients participating in the Squire program, and graduates of Protection Development are automatically members of the Arizona Protection Dog Club.
Qualified outside handler-and-dog teams may request consideration for membership. Outside dogs must already possess established obedience and protection skills. AZPDC is a maintenance and advancement club—not a program for developing an outside dog into a protection dog.
Before acceptance, each outside team must complete an entry assessment that considers:
Approved outside teams must also complete the club’s membership buy-in before participating.
Dogs that still need to be developed for protection must enter through Armor K9’s Protection Development program and meet the requirements of the Squire program.
Acceptance and continued participation remain subject to AZPDC standards for safety, conduct, responsible handling, and suitability.

For Armor K9 protection-dog owners, Squire teams, and Protection Development graduates, AZPDC provides a place to maintain hard-earned skills, continue growing as a team, and train alongside people who share the same commitment.
